25 years ago there were very few Charlottesville luxury homes being built. The number of quality home builders could be counted on one hand. The city of Charlottesville and the surrounding Albemarle County were known for their historic homes and farms.
But in early 2000 with the influx of new money from residents of New York and New Jersey looking for affordable property taxes, 5 Star healthcare, and excellent public and private schools, these new Charlottesville homebuyers demanded luxury.
Today, there are hundreds of luxury homes and over 20 luxury homebuilders. What a difference 20 years has made!
Many of the finer luxury homes around Charlottesville are located in gated communities such as Farmington, The Club at Glenmore, and Keswick Estate on the grounds of the newly renovated Keswick Hall. All offer superb sports facilities and at least 18 holes of championship golf.
Where would I live?
Glenmore or Farmington. Farmington is not gated but home to the prestigious Farmington Country Club and located on the western edge of Charlottesville in a very scenic area surrounded by homes built or designed by Thomas Jefferson.
