Luxury Lewis Mountain Charlottesville Real Estate

The 133-acre Lewis Mountain neighborhood in Charlottesville is one of my favorite places to live. The majority of homes offer mature landscaping and well-manicured lawns. With a population of 923 residents, most of the Lewis Mountain homeowners work at UVA or are retired.

Lewis Mountain Charlottesville is renowned for its attractive homes and narrow quiet lanes and sits at the base of Lewis Mountain (a private mountaintop retreat built in 1909).

The close proximity to the University of Virginia makes Lewis Mountain real estate some of the most expensive Charlottesville neighborhoods. The neighborhood is named for David Lewis Sr. who purchased 3,000 acres in 1734.

The Lewis Mountain neighborhood was developed between 1920-1955

Read the history of the Lewis family.

Lewis Mountain Manor was built in 1909 and sits on the National Historic Register. The home is situated on the most visible and spectacular knoll in Charlottesville with a 360-degree view overlooking the University of Virginia, the City of Charlottesville, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The stone manor is a stone’s throw from the Rotunda at the University and is surrounded by dry-laid stone retaining walls on its 42+ acre site with grand rooms, 14’ ceilings, fireplaces in every room, and moldings beyond belief.

Living in the Lewis Mountain neighborhood feels as if you are living at the University of Virginia. I know because I lived on Kent Rd before purchasing my farm in Ivy and always enjoyed taking long walks around the neighborhood.

Lewis Mountain is extremely tranquil except on UVA football game days, as Scott Stadium is a simple jog away.

Charlottesville Public Schools that serve Lewis Mountain are Venable Elementary, Buford Middle, Walker Upper, and Charlottesville High.

Note: St. Anne’s Belfield’s Upper School is located here. The Lower School is nearby off Old Ivy Road.

Location: Just off Ivy Road. The neighborhood backs up to Albemarle County to the north and sits within the University of Virginia grounds. The scrumptious Foods of All Nations is located on Ivy Rd just outside of the neighborhood and offers some of the yummiest foods in Virginia.

My thoughts: The Lewis Mountain neighborhood in Charlottesville is one of my favorite places to live. I found the neighbors to be exceptionally friendly and they can usually be seen at dusk walking their dogs. On a scale of 1-10, I give the neighborhood a 10.
